Our fellow passengers can now enjoy hassle free journey from the capital of India to one of the most popular and frequently visited devotional place. And yes, your guess is right! We are talking about the sacred place Shirdi. According to our sources, initially six flights will operate daily from Shirdi airport that will connect the temple town with our famous metropolitan cities like Delhi , Mumbai and Hyderabad.
Sources have reported that the airport will be operational by the end of this September. Alliance Air (i.e a subsidiary of Air India) would operate one flight to Delhi and four to Mumbai, one private airline named Truejet would operate between Delhi and Hyderabad. As the excitement retains in the heart of our pilgrims, our State Aviation Secretary Valsa Nair Singh had confirmed that the go-ahead for the operational work will be given by mid- September this year and the flights will get green signal by the end of this month. Same has come true. Devotees can reach to their presiding diety in no time.
As our sources confirmed that the initial inspection of the 4-day test of the overall inspection activities were initiated, the test has been done to ensure all aspects of safety, operations and security at the airport before giving a green signal. This inspection team had set of representatives of the DGCA(Directorate general of Civil Aviation) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The airport will be fully operational by the end of this month as the DGCA has given the final go ahead. They could not risk the safety and security of our fellow passengers that’s why certain safety measures were verified and evaluated before the final launch of the airport.
The entire airport is developed and managed by Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) Limited. Officially the land for the airport was acquired by Ahmednagar District administration for the project on 22 December 2009. According to our sources the initial single runway was 60 metres wide and 2000 metres long. MADC have decided to extend the length to 3200 metres for proper operation of bigger aircrafts. As per the reports ,the airport is expected to be launched on the celebrations of Sai Baba’s Samadhi that will attract lakhs of tourists and pilgrims to the holy town from India and abroad.
Sources have reported that the Aviation regulator DGCA has granted aerodrome license to the Shirdi airport in Maharashtra which is one of the most awaited flight operations in India. The aerodrome license to Shirdi airport has been issued by the Director General of Civil Aviation after ensuring all the relevant standards.Once the airport is fully functional, then it will reduce the overall travel time from 5 hours journey to just 45 minutes. This will be a plus point for the tourists travelling from different locations as it will save their time and it will facilitate in maintaining a peaceful journey for the pilgrims that are willing to visit Shirdi temple. The airport is capable of handling narrow-body aircraft such as Airbus 320 and Boeing 737.
Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) Limited has invested Rs.300 crore for the development of the airport for which Rs. 50 crore has been provided by the Shirdi Sai Baba Sasthan. According to the estimates and predictions, around 500 passengers will daily travel from Shirdi airport. Special counters will be made on the airport that will offer passes for darshan along with the temple transfers. Several cloak rooms will be constructed at the airport for the devotees. The distance between airport and the temple is approximately 15 km. Apart from this, dedicated taxi or bus service will be made available to reach the temple easily from the airport.
